Cold in the nose

Cold in the nose

A short intermission from your usual host as he (should) be doing the final touches to what I must say is a stunning bathroom. In fact it is more than a bathroom now, no longer are there several layers of carpet, which like the soil in time team were revealing the fashion and cultures of years long ago. Instead there is a smooth and handsomely trimmed laminate with wicker and pine accessories (for you girlies out there).

Well we have had a week here, Harold has a lovely room, what intially seemed a daring yet dark blue with the potential of sapping all the space, turned out to be a fantastic BLOOOOO room with once again some really nice touches. We are now in the process of ‘dust busting’ no wonder our genial host has such bad asthma… I knew what I was letting myself in for but believe me it was worse. The father inlaw was needed for emergency oven repair. Any way moaning aside it has been a week of colds, hugs and ooodles of teamwork. Matt has done a fantastic job and thanks to all those out there who helped.

PS it aint over yet.

And so it begins…

And so it begins…

I am sitting at my PC grabbing 210 minute’s rest whilst Mary starts work on painting Harry’s bedroom ceiling. I have found it’s best to let Mary wield the long roller as what seems to be a precision instrument in her hands turns into an indiscriminate paint sprinkler in mine.

This morning we have also removed the hideous carpets (!) from the bathroom, ready to be replaced with laminate flooring once the boards have aclimatised (like high altitude runners… they’ll get tired too quickly if we force them into action too soon).

A trip to the tip has dispensed with the old carpets and about 2% of the other stuff that needs removing from the house, but that at least allows us to move around the place by squeezing between things rather than going over them. I think that’s progress…

As works in progress go, it’s still very much in its infancy. Watch out for the obligatory during and after pictures. We forgot to do the before ones :o)

Oh, did I mention I’m on HOLIDAY this week?

Leave my stuff alone!

Leave my stuff alone!

<rant topic=”microsoft”>

At work we’ve been asked to install Office XP Service Pack 3 for the ‘added security features’ and so on. Fair enough, security’s quite important and all that… Having done so, however, the only differences I’ve noticed is that IE and Outlook have been re-added to my Quick Launch toolbar (I’d replaced IE with Firefox a while ago… Outlook was already there so I ended up with two Outlook icons…), and images that used to open quite happily in Firefox now launch Microsoft’s crappy Photo Editor. Grrr. Since when was Photo Editor anything to do with Office? Or maybe it’s ‘more secure’?

Anyhoo… back to work… Now that my CVS module is un-broken I can get some work done 🙂 (Note to self: don’t use Eclipse to move java packages around in a CVS module… everything gets a tad confused)

And another one bites the dust…

And another one bites the dust…

It’s two years since I registered the domain ‘depondency.co.uk’. Well, after so much frantic use it made the Slashdot effect look like a faint prod, and a community numbering into the hundreds of thousands, it’s time to call it a day. I just can’t afford the bandwidth bills anymore…

Or.

I registered it on a whim and never did anything with it. Anybody want it?

Oh and I installed Skype last night (see Mr-F‘s writeup). As Keef says, it ‘just works’, even to ye olde worlde phones. Cool.
