And to balance out my ‘I hate …

And to balance out my ‘I hate …

And to balance out my ‘I hate stuff’ week, I love Crucial. Ordered half a gig of memory from them at 2:30pm yesterday – it arrived by special delivery this morning. Saturday and all. Good stuff boys and girls – highly recommended.

I just discovered a pointless …

I just discovered a pointless …

I just discovered a pointless but well-intentioned feature of my motherboard. If it thinks your CPU fan isn’t running at boot time, it says “CPU FAN NOT RUNNING! SHUTDOWN? Y/N”. Which is nice, except my responses aren’t quite quick enough to actually perform the shutdown in the 2 nanoseconds you generally have in situations like that before the CPU is dead. Fortunately, in this case, my CPU fan actually was running. Which was handy. The trials and tribulations of fitting a memory upgrade, huh? 😀 (Oh, and then 2 of my USB ports decided to stop working, but I seem to have fixed that with a reboot…)

And I also hate copy protected…

And I also hate copy protected…

And I also hate copy protected CDs. I am not a criminal just because I want to listen to some music which I paid for on something other than a CD player. And oh yes, A transparent sticker in the bottom corner of the CD case isn’t exactly prominent, is it? Grr. (I thought there was some movement by Phillips saying that copy-protected CDs couldn’t actually call themselves CDs? Was I mistaken or did it die a death?) (CD is “Permission To Land” by The Darkness, by the way. Please don’t buy it.)

Ah the weekend…

Ah the weekend…

Ah the weekend…

Did I say that last week’s course was good? I did? Well, it really was. The instructor (site) was very knowledgeable, and one of a rare breed of techies who can talk to people. I recommend the training company heartily.

So today I have been coding (look at me, ma, I’m all inspired) – and have finished my first ever proper MVC web app. And it works. And I can see the benefits. (And the war’s over, elvis is dead and we won the world cup…)

Lack of updates…

Lack of updates…

Lack of updates… apologies. I am on a course until Thursday, learning the inticracies of J2EE web development – all very good stuff and very worthwhile. Eseentially a clarification of how not to do things, and we are scoring a near full house in ‘evilness-bingo’ … 😀 WARM today – we are in a non-airconned office – nice. Oh, and don’t tel anyone but I’m playing golf tonight… oh the horror.

No entries for a while… Erm …

No entries for a while… Erm …

No entries for a while… Erm – Same old stuff. Coding… sleeping… drinking… you know how it goes. Trip to Goodwood this weekend for the festival of speed. Training course next week. Oh, and a WAP version of this here weblog is in development. Don’t hold yer breath, I’m getting lots of ‘500’ errors at the moment… Ho hum. 🙂

As you may have gathered, I am…

As you may have gathered, I am…

As you may have gathered, I am back from “oop north”. It was ok – glad I went. Tainted a little by the trip to A&E Sunday morning, but still… Prospects for the week – more coding; plugging the ‘engine’ into the ‘bodywork’, pretty much. It seems to be going ok. And oh yes… I kinda bought a new toy (but I have since taken it back… :-()
